[주장2] ‘Understand’의 어원은 글자의 생김새와는 좀 다르다. ‘Under, Stand’라면 밑에 서 있다는 뜻이어서 상대방의 논리에 순종한다는 얘기 같지만 사실 ‘Under’는 라틴어로 ‘Between’을 뜻한다. 중심에 서 있단 뜻이다. 이해한다는 건 중립에 서서 객관적으로 상대를 바라보는 행위다. 그러니까 이해한다는 건 동의한다는 뜻에 더 가깝다. via Search The Style, ELLE Korea.

둘중에 어떤 어원이 맞는지 찾아보는 중입니다. wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Understand 가 있긴한데 이런경우 WIKI는 적절하지 않습니다.

the under is not the usual word meaning “beneath,” but from Old English under, from PIE *nter- “between, among” via Online Etymology Dictionary.
